The most important pieces of furniture in a living room
The living area remains the multi-functional room of the house. It serves as a place for relaxation and gathering when receiving guests, having small ceremonies, or or even a game room of sorts. We all like living in beautiful lounges spending beautiful evenings on a sofa, a couch or even entertaining friends and family. At SECPE Investments we hope that you take time to smell the flowers, to enjoy your surrounding and love where you live. Your home, your living room is usually your sanctuary, the place you relax.
Generally your living room will reflect your distinct personality your style. Here are the common pieces in a living space :
-Sofa : Choose the size, shape, and color of your living room based on the theme. What do you want to reflect? Piece, is this an oasis, how do you want your guests to feel when they walk in? And what is your budget. Do I want a sofa that is comfy so I can sleep on, or am I looking for a decorative piece, modern? traditional or mainstream. Do I want one sofa, two or a two sofa pieces and an armchair? Keep in mind, the smaller the space, the less the furniture. Consider one main sofa and one armchair. This set up usually works for 80% of most homes. Even though a furniture set comes with all three pieces who says you have to use all three. Make wise choices that showcase your personality and are elegant.
-Side or Center Tables : Tables grant patrons the ability to mix and match styles. But you must use compatible styles. Using a modern table in a conservative room usually clashes. Straight lines in furniture pieces and tables are usually very simple to match and work well together even if the colors don’t seem to.
-Television : Very few living areas are without a television. But again too big a television for a small space is usually not a wise idea. In addition try fixing the television to the wall to to maximize space in a small living area. For larger spaces, try enclosing or framing your television with cabinets. This will always make the television a focal point in the living room.
The advantage of having separate pieces of furniture is that it allows you to move them into strategic areas of the space to give you ample choices. Some folks take the time to change their living space/area every 6 months. Smaller movable pieces greatly assist with that.
– Accessories : Throw pillows, Throw rugs, framed pictures. Consider these additions to provide context and intimacy to your environment. Pictures are the best way to showcase your loved ones and add to the personality of the room. The size of the rug is the most important item to sensitize individuals to your style. The larger the room/space, the larger your rug can be. If you have a smaller space, a smaller rug is ideal, proving the illusion of more space.
-Bar and Library : In larger homes, finding a Bar is not uncommon. If you love to serve alcohol at your events, consider adding a statement bar piece, small or large depending on the space. It serves to organize your space and can be a really cool conversational piece depending on its positioning in the living area.
Quick Tip:
Draw out your furnishings on a piece of paper. Map out the dimensions of the room and scale accordingly. Too much furniture, or too big sofas make a space look small. Note that it is important you scale your furniture pieces to the length and depth of the room. Making even the smallest changes to your living room can enhance its use and make your living room more of a focal point and aid in creating a more user friendly comfortable environment. And as mentioned before never hesitate to add add color and give your room more life. Accessory suggestions include, a natural pot of flowers to bring the outdoors indoors. Adding pieces of art paintings, or even adding an aquarium, if you love the aquatic scene (note that Aquariums come with a substantial financial cost for maintenance, if you are on a budget, try using a home made project or piece of art instead) Need more tips and information ?
