The best city to invest in Cameroon in todays climate
I want to invest in real estate in Cameroon, so which city do I pick? The answer to this question is loaded; “It depends, what is your motivation?” Business investment? Long term, short term? Personal? Don’t care I just want to make money? How quickly can I get a return on my investment ROI – return on income? Where is there the least amount of risk?
In addition are you put off by political unrests, little to no regulations, lack of financial institutions willing to grant credit? Well, Cameroon is a breeding ground of opportunities in all sectors, and this is no lie. In real estate, the cities with the most growth include Yaounde, Douala, Buea, Ebolowa and Ngoundere. Kribi is expected to grow rapidly over the next few years. With recent upheavals certain areas have stalled in growth opportunities, however, history teaches that regardless of what happens in any economy, what goes down will eventually come back up if you are prudent, wise, ask a lot of questions and are willing to take a risk. In addition there are great investment opportunities available, just ask us here at www.secpeinvestments.com.
So where would I invest? Well it’s not that simple. It depends on your personality (Ohhhh this is complicated but read on you will understand why!)
Using the DISC personality trait, I will summarize my experience in two main traits! The bottom 2 quadrants vs the top 2. See chart below for the full description.
Are you the type of person that has to have a savings account with enough money in your account to tidy you over for at least 6 months? If you are then you are the perfect candidate to take on an investment that has little outlays of cash, multiple partners to diversify the risk and willing to wait on a long term return that is almost “guaranteed”. (Even though the first rule of thumb in investments is that there are no guarantees). It is painful for these individuals to deplete their account at a moment’s notice. Everything should be spelled out and at any sign of trouble, it is not unusual for such a personality trait to attempt to back out of a transaction for fear of losing any more money.
Result: In my experience, such Steady, Cautious individuals are more apt to investing in land in their place of origin. Prefer to invest in residential properties, 1 at a time. They have to see their returns coming in soon, if not they will more than likely not invest in any other opportunity. Would prefer to have a certain brand of clientele renting their investments and if that brand is not available, will prefer to leave the property vacant on the off chance that the wrong person rents the property. All T’s need to be crossed and all I’s dotted. Transparency is key, vital and integral to their relationship with you. Once a fan they remain loyal.

Are you the type that has less than $50, 50,000xfa in their bank account at any given time, but if you need to raise $1,000, $10,000, 1,000,000xfa or even 10,000,000xfa you will find a way to do so immediately. Could you empty your account if you found a “great” investment opportunity with company X and not worry that you have no extra cash for the next few months? If you are then you are a perfect candidate to take on any investment. You will study what needs to be done and do it. You understand there are risks and that there no guarantees but that does not stop you. One can say you may be quite the risk taker sometimes not taking the time to check all of the facts presented. Such personality traits typically believe anything is possible. They have probably dilly dallied in some form of business venture already and are typically not bound by sentimental boundaries.
Result: In my experience, such decisive individuals usually make a lot of money in the long run because they are risk takers. If the opportunity makes sense they are willing to go on the adventure. Such individuals can buy and develop land/real estate in any corner of the country regardless of ethnicity so long as the projected return on investment is profitable.
